The InventorsGrace HopperGrace Hopper was nick-named Amazing Grace, she was an American scientist and was a pioneer in this field who developed the first compiler for a programming language. She was also the person that developed the idea of ‘Debugging’ of the computer so as to fix computer glitches. Prior to the development of programming languages programs were written from machine codes. She was also among the first to program the Harvard Mark I.
Douglas EnglelbartDouglas Englelbart more commonly known as among his peers as ‘Doug’ was also an American computer pioneer but he is more popularly known for the great works he has done in his field. Mr. Engelbart developed the computer mouse and hypertext. His interests lies within computer-human interaction and how to better this interaction. Engelbart also developed precursors to
GUI(Graphical User Interface). Ivan SutherlandIvan Sutherland is also a well known computer scientist who invented the Sketch-Pad which is now largely associated with the personal computer. He was an Electrical Engineering student at the Carnegie Institute of Technology.
Sutherland received the Turing Award for his invention at the Association for Computing Machinery. He also received the award Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology for his contribution to the development of the GUI. Alan KayAlan Kay was a pioneer in the field of object-oriented programming and windowing graphical user interface. He was also a computer scientist and is more popularly known for his phrase “The best way to predict the future is to invent it”. He developed the name and idea of “Object-Oriented Programming” along with some friends at PARC. He also developed the idea of Dynabook which is now one of the basic concepts from which laptops and tablets are built.
Adele GoldbergAdele Goldberg is a computer scientist and researcher at the
Xerox Palto Research Center(PARC). She was a major player in the development of the Smalltalk-80 programming language. She also worked alongside Alan Kay in the development of Smalltalk. Adele was the demonstrator for the Smalltalk System for Steve Jobs. She received the ACM Software Systems Award in 1987. Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs was a pioneer in the development of the Personal Computer (PC). He is an entrepreneur and the co-founder of Apple Inc. He was also a board of director at The Walt Disney Company. Jobs was also involved in the development of the Apple Lisa, the Macintosh and the Laser Writer (among the first laser printers that were invented). The iPad, iPhone, iTunes and iMac are all products of Jobs’s idea. Jobs was born in San Francisco, California in the US, he later died at the age of 56 at Palo Alto, California.
Marc Dean
Marc Dean is an African-American computer scientist and engineer. Dean studied at The University of Tennessee where he majored in Electrical Engineering. He was head of the design team that build the first one-giga hertz computer processor chip, he was also a major player in the development of the ISA bus. Dean is the first ever African-American to become an IBM fellow. He was also inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
Bill GatesBill Gates is among the wealthiest persons in the world today. He is an investor, programmer and an inventor. Bill Gates cofounded Microsoft alongside Paul Allen, which is today one of the largest PC companies still in existence. Gates is largely accused for his bad business tactics, but these tactics are also what made Microsoft a success. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today helps in the support of many charitable and research programs. Bill Gates was born in Seattle, US and today resides in Medina, Seattle US.
